WINDHAM, N.Y. – The Adaptive Sports Foundation (ASF), in partnership with Windham Mountain Club, will be celebrating its sixth-annual ASF Awareness Day this Saturday, January 13, with an informational tent at the Windham Mountain Club Base Lodge during the day and a concert featuring The Nerds at Windham Mountain Club’s Seasons that evening.
ASF Awareness Day is a way for the ASF to reach out to more people who may not know about the organization or what it does, which is to provide outdoor sports and recreation opportunities to children and adults with cognitive and physical disabilities. The ASF is celebrating its 40th year of teaching adaptive ski and snowboard lessons in Windham.
The ASF will set up an information tent outside the Windham Mountain Club Base Lodge at 9 a.m. and it will be operating until 3 p.m. Staff and volunteers will be providing information about the organization, handing out giveaways and accepting donations throughout the day.
This year, the ASF Awareness Day Race was to be combined with the Windham Race Factory’s Mini World Cup. However, due to current conditions, the Windham Race Factory has postponed this race to Saturday, February 3. The ASF has yet to determine a makeup date for its Awareness Day race.
After the slopes close, the ASF Awareness Day festivities will move to the third floor of the Windham Mountain Club Base Lodge in the Seasons Club, where the ASF and Windham Mountain Club will be hosting a concert featuring The Nerds. The Nerds is a very popular cover band based out of New Jersey and has headlined all the ASF Awareness Day concerts.
The concert is set to begin at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. The Nerd’s first set is scheduled to end at 7 p.m. to make way for a fireworks show during intermission. The band will return to the stage at 7:30 p.m. to continue rocking the lodge until 8:30 p.m. Tickets to the concert have been sold out.
